The black carpenter ant is dark brownish-black all over, Carpenter ants range from 6 to 25 mm (.24 to 1 inch) long. They are also well known for their ability to damage wooden structures. Because of their digging, it is not uncommon to find sawdust expelled from a tunnel leading to the nest.
The pavement ant is dark brown to blackish, and 2.5–4 mm long. they usually always form their nests under pavements or concrete within the cracks, they also occasionally nest within walls, under foundations, in the insulation of buildings and under walls.
The pharaoh ant is a small (2 mm) almost transparent a little more than 1/16-inch, in length. They are light yellow to reddish brown in color with a darker abdomen. Their colonies can grow up to several hundred thousands.
